I've spent a good portion of my life in the past 10 years on the road for both work and play. I can definitely say that some of those days and months have been the best of my life. Traveling with and without friends, you experience a full gamut of emotions. One day you feel like life has never been better; you're spending time in an amazing landscape with some of your best friends. The laughter and smiles are there from the time you wake up until the last person passes out. That last person still giggling and squawking from their bag until finally no one responds. Then one day later, you're all hugging goodbye and moving onto new journeys, headed home or worst of all, back to a normal job that you are not excited about.
In July, we headed east to Jackson, WY for a friend's wedding. We took off a week early and planned on cruising across Oregon for most of the way on Hwy 26.
We started the trip off right with a moonlight paddle on Clear Lake (Mt. Hood) on our first night. We then moved on across the state, hitting the Painted Hills, through the cool, quirky town of Mitchell (must go back and check out), then up to the Wallowas. Pulled into Enterprise for some grub and a pint at the Terminal Gravity Brewery. I'd always heard what a great setting it is and we were not let down. Super tasty food and beer, live music by the Blackberry Bushes and families hanging out in the little creek (which is safe for kids). It couldn't really get much more wholesome.
We then cruised on, camping along the beautiful Imnaha River. The next day, we headed towards one of my favorite summer places, Stanley, ID. Stanley sits on the east side of the Sawtooth Mountains at around 7000ft.
With one last day of driving to make it out to the Jackson area, we dropped down through Sun Valley, stopped at Silver Creek for a quick peek and drove through Craters of the Moon finally pulling into the Driggs / Victor area to stay with a good friend.
We'll put part two of this journey up in the next few days...really! =)
